POTTERS ASKED TO LEARN THIS DESIGN
A LITTLE WORD FROM OTHER POTTERS
Through my glazing workbook and live workshops, I help potters understand what their glazes are doing and feel more confident using them. Here’s what they’ve shared.
The piece pictured here is for the days when you want to take your time, map out a design and explore how colour and movement travel across a form.
In this workshop, I’ll walk you through this intricate design step by step, explaining where I place each glaze, how I apply it and why, so you can understand the decisions behind the finished piece and adapt the ideas to your own work.
But I also know what it’s like to have an entire batch of bisque waiting for glaze.
So I’ll also teach you four simple, quick techniques, each one ready to use on its own, for the days when you want beautiful results without spending hours on application.
And throughout both, I’ll explain what I’m doing and why, because the really useful part is understanding how to take those ideas into your own work.

You love making pottery, but deciding how to glaze every piece keeps putting the whole batch on hold. You’d love a few beautiful, manageable techniques to reach for when studio time is limited.
02
The colour, movement and layers draw you in, but you’re unsure how to approach them yourself. You’d love to see the application and understand the decisions behind a finished piece.
03
You know the colours you like, but choosing what goes underneath, how much to apply and where to place each glaze can feel like guesswork. You’d really like someone to show you.
If you’re nodding along, I made this workshop with you in mind.
HERE’S WHAT WE’LL BE CREATING TOGETHER
PART ONE

When you’ve got several pieces waiting for glaze, it helps to have a few techniques you can reach for. I’ll demonstrate four quick applications, each ready to use on its own, showing you the placement, layering and thickness behind the finished result.
We’ll also explore how to adapt these techniques to different forms and colour palettes, so you can make a varied collection that still feels like yours.
Quick refers to the application. Your pots will still need their usual drying and firing time.
PART TWO

I’ll demonstrate the original flowing design step by step, explaining how I map the form, layer Anchors and Movers, and choose where colours stay defined or move and blend.
We’ll compare the application with the fired piece, then explore three additional fired variations to see how different colours, glaze brands and application thicknesses influence the result.
You’ll receive the full glaze lists for all four examples, plus the design guide and application notes to help you plan your own tests.
Alongside the original design I’ll demonstrate, we’ll explore three additional fired variations to see how different colours, glazes, brands and application thicknesses can change the result.
You’ll receive the full glaze lists for all four examples, so you can refer back to them as you plan your own tests.
LEARN NOW, GLAZE WHEN YOU’RE READY
Your pieces might be ready tomorrow, or still waiting for their first firing at your community studio. There’s no pressure to glaze along or even attend live.
Every ticket includes the full workshop replay, including the demonstrations and Q&A, plus printable guides and glaze lists. Watch, pause and revisit the application whenever you’re ready to try it yourself.
Replay available within 48 hours of the workshop.
WHO’S TEACHING YOU
I'm a New Zealand potter, the creator of The Glaze Personality Method, and I also happen to have a background in teaching adults how to learn complicated things.
I've spent years testing combinations, making mistakes, filling notebooks and trying to understand why some glaze designs turn out beautifully while others look absolutely nothing like I imagined.
Eventually I started sharing what I was learning, and that grew into an Instagram community of over 60,000 followers and a digital glazing workbook that's now being used by over 1,000 potters across the world.
The thing I love most is helping someone understand what their glazes are actually doing, because once you start recognising how they behave, you can begin making much more interesting decisions about how to use them.
And that's what I want to share with you in this workshop.
Maybe you've got a whole collection of pottery waiting for glaze and you'd love a few beautiful ideas that won't take forever to apply.
Or maybe there's one piece you've been saving because you want to do something really special with it, but you're unsure where to start.
Either way, I'd love to help.
We'll explore four quick, standalone glaze techniques and one more intricate flowing composition, and I'll explain the decisions behind each so you can take the ideas into your own work.
And with lifetime access to the replay and all the printable resources, you'll have something to come back to long after the holiday season is over.

Yes, the virtual workshop is designed for beginner and intermediate hobby potters. You don't need an understanding of glaze chemistry or previous experience with The Glaze Personality Method. I'll explain the relevant concepts, including Anchors and Movers, as we use them.
You don't need to own the digital workbook. If you already have it, this is an opportunity to see some of those ideas demonstrated through application and design.
Your virtual workshop ticket includes the live session, lifetime replay and workshop resources. The Glaze Personality Method workbook is a separate product and isn't included with your ticket.
I'll demonstrate four simple, quick-to-apply glaze techniques, each ready to use on its own, plus one separate intricate flowing design.
We'll explore application order, thickness and placement, along with composition and how different glazes interact. Your ticket includes printable guides for all four techniques and the intricate design.
We'll also look at three additional fired variations of the intricate design to explore what different colours, glazes, brands and application thicknesses can do. You'll receive the full glaze lists for those examples too.
Some examples use seasonal colours, but the approaches can be used throughout the year. You're welcome to adapt them to your own palettes and projects, whether or not you celebrate Christmas.
Quick refers to application time. Your pieces still need their usual drying and firing time.
You don't need my exact glazes or your own kiln. Community studio and shared-kiln potters are very welcome.
I'll demonstrate commercial brush-on glazes used in cone 5/6 electric oxidation firings, share my glaze lists and explain the roles each glaze plays. We'll also discuss choosing alternatives from glazes you already own.
Substitutions need testing with your clay and firing conditions, even when the colours look similar. If you work at another firing range or atmosphere, the design principles may still be useful, but the specific combinations haven't been demonstrated or validated for those conditions.
There's no pressure to glaze along. You're welcome to watch with a cup of tea, take notes and ask questions. You don't need bisque or glaze materials ready on the day.
Every ticket includes lifetime replay access, whether you attend live or watch later. The replay includes the demonstrations, explanations and live Q&A.
Attending live gives you the opportunity to ask your own questions. Otherwise, you can try the techniques whenever your pieces and firing schedule are ready.
The event replay access will be sent to your email address 48 hours after the live event has concluded. This is hosted on a private Youtube.
Your printable resources include design guides, placement references, glaze lists, application notes and relevant firing information.
The resources will be sent to you via the email you have provided 48 hours before the workshop.
The live event will be run using Microsoft Teams, which you can join from a browser. After purchasing your ticket, you will recieve an email inviting you to register for the live event. After registering, you will receive the joining information via your email.
You’re welcome to use and adapt these ideas for pottery you sell or give as gifts.
Your results may differ from mine, as clay body, glaze thickness, placement, application and firing conditions all influence the finished surface. I’ll explain my choices so you have useful starting points to test in your own studio.
The intricate design shown uses layered glazes and is intended for decorative use only. Layering glazes creates a new combination whose suitability for food or drink can’t be assumed, even when the individual glazes are labelled food safe. This needs to be assessed through appropriate testing with your specific clay, glaze application and firing conditions.
For any pottery you sell or gift, make sure the finished piece is suitable for its intended use and clearly communicate any care or use restrictions.
If your plans change, email admin@katiebceramics.com at least 48 hours before the workshop starts for a refund of your workshop ticket price. Cancellations received less than 48 hours before the workshop starts are non-refundable, but you’ll still have lifetime access to the replay.
If I cancel the workshop, you’ll receive a full refund of your workshop ticket price.
If I change the date, you can choose to keep your booking for the new date, including lifetime replay access, or receive a refund of the workshop.
For booking questions or cancellation requests, contact admin@katiebceramics.com.
Whether you’ve got a whole batch waiting for glaze, or one special piece you’d love to spend more time with, come and explore the possibilities with me.
Four quick techniques. One intricate design. Plenty of ideas to take back to your studio.

Ever looked at a beautiful, flowing glaze combination and wondered how on earth someone figured out where to put everything?
In this live, virtual two-hour workshop, I'm taking you behind the scenes of one of my more intricate glaze designs, showing you exactly how I build layers of colour and movement, where I place each glaze, how much I apply, and most importantly, WHY I make those decisions.
We'll explore how different glazes interact, how to use Anchors and Movers to create beautiful flowing effects, and how you can adapt the ideas using glazes you already own.
And because I know we don't always have hours to spend glazing a single pot, I'm also teaching four beautiful, quick-to-apply techniques for those times when you've got a whole batch to finish but still want every piece to feel special.
What's included:
One intricate, flowing glaze design, demonstrated step by step, with three variations.
Four quick glaze techniques with beautiful results and manageable application.
Guidance on glaze order, thickness, placement and interactions.
Tips for adapting the designs to your own glazes, colours and pottery forms.
Printable design templates, glaze lists and application guides.

Live virtual workshop: Sunday 8 November 2026, 7am NZDT (Saturday 7 November, 10am Pacific / 1pm Eastern / 6pm UK).
Can't join live? Every ticket includes lifetime replay access, so you can watch, pause and revisit the demonstrations whenever you're ready to glaze.
